A Few Important Notes
- Services provided by Gather Well differ from traditional medical treatments or psychotherapy. Participants seeking such services should do so independently of their care with Gather Well.
- Gather Well does not provide any mind altering substances, “medicines”, “sacraments”, or the like. It offers preparation, integration, personal development coaching and harm reduction support during the weeks before and after a session involving a psychedelic substance and during the time immediately after someone has consumed a psychedelic substance. Participants in Gather Well’s programs and services understand that Gather Well does not provide any substances.
- Gather Well has entered a partnership with the Abridge Inn, an entity recognized as a church conducting activity with sacraments (psychedelics) under the Religious Freedom Act, by which participants can consume sacraments under this legal framework, with one of their ministers present and overseeing the sincerity with which the sacrament is engaged with.
- Nonetheless, it is important for those being supported by Gather Well’s service to understand that psilocybin-containing mushrooms are Federally recognized as a Schedule-1 substance, and illegal to possess or sell.
Staff Roles
Ceremonial Lead Guides are responsible for stewarding the ceremonial container and leading mushroom ceremonies during Gather Well retreats. Their role centers on fostering a safe, ethical, and relationally grounded space for group ceremonial work. In addition to leading the ceremony, guides will offer individual and group preparation and integration sessions.
A Gather Well guide has demonstrated experience in group facilitation involving psilocybin. This experience may include serving as a lead guide, co-guide, or assistant guide across multiple ceremonial settings. Guides are expected to be comfortable holding group dynamics, navigating altered states, and responding with care to emotional, psychological, and relational processes as they arise.
Ceremonial Lead Assistants will be present on site to support the ceremonial container. Their role is to offer steady presence, practical care, and compassionate support to help participants feel safe, held, and attended to throughout the retreat. Assistants may also provide individual preparation and integration sessions.
Gather Well Apprentices serve as ceremonial junior assistants, supporting the overall ceremonial container under the direct guidance and supervision of lead guides. These live retreat experiences are a central part of Gather Well’s 18 month training program, offering apprentices the opportunity to apply what they have learned in a real-world, supervised settings. All apprentices have been carefully evaluated for knowledge and skill to ethically serve in the role of junior assistant.
